Feasting Days - The Boreal Feast: A Culinary Journey Through the North

  • Barbara-Jo's Books to Cooks

This year we are choosing to live in celebration of all the good things. One of the good things we can all appreciate is Feasting Days, those days of the year where we eat special things and spend time with those we care about the most.

Today we are celebrating a new book that is perfectly in line with this vision, The Boreal Feast: A Culinary Journey Through the North by Michele Genest. This is what she has to say about feasts:

“Whether elaborate or simple, a feast celebrates and strengthens our connection to each other and to the place we live—this field, forest, town, city, region, country, this earth—through good food and let us not forget, fun. The food upon which we feast is at the centre, both a celebration in itself and the medium through which we celebrate, the connector to each other and to what sustains us.”

Join us for a reception this afternoon with a talk and demonstration by Michele. Everyone will receive a copy of the book to create their own feasts at home.

Cost: $30, includes refreshments and a copy of The Boreal Feast: A Culinary Journey Through the North.

Feasting Days - Celebrate Canada Day with Canada's Drink

  • Barbara-Jo's Books to Cooks

Celebrate Canada Day by drinking a Canadian libation with us in preparation for next week's feasting day, our nation's birthday.

The Caesar was created by Calgary's Walter Chell for the opening of Marco's Italian Restaurant in 1969. Named after the great Roman Emperor, the aperitif was based on the rich and complex flavours of one of the restaurant's dishes, Spaghetti Vongole.

To celebrate the launch of his new book, Caesars: The Essential Guide to your Favourite Cocktail, author Clint Pattemore (who is also the Chief Mixing Officer for Mott's Clamato), will be in Vancouver today. The book has more than 50 ways to make the classic drink and 20 easy food recipes by Connie DeSousa and John Jackson, co-owners and chefs of the celebrated Charcut Roast House in Calgary.

Join us this evening to meet the author and drink the Caesar along with some nibbles prepared from the book.

*Copies of Caesars: The Essential Guide to your Favourite Cocktail, will be for sale at the event.

Cost: FREE, please RSVP by calling 604-688-6755.
