Venturi-Schulze has something to Celebrate

  • Barbara-Jo's Books to Cooks

For the past 25 years, this venerable and (Vancouver Island) local business has been producing a Balsamic Vinegar to rival the artisan "vinegarians" of Modena Italy.   But, in the ideology of the Modena Balsamic Vinegar Society, it takes 25 years of continuous and exceptional presentation of an outlier producer to receive the status of designation for the ancient method vinegar.

So today we celebrate 25 years of excellence, how marvelous to embrace the challenges of farming and creating, allowing our community to appreciate such fine Balsamic Vinegar.  Today we will enjoy both a vinegar tasting and a sampling of delectable morsels prepared with the Balsamic Vinegar by the talented Chef Max Straczek of Fable Restaurant.

Bottles of Venture-Schulze Balsamic Vinegar will be available for purchase.

Please advise by email or telephone if you are able to join us for this special occasion.

An Afternoon with Miss Vickie

  • Barbara-Jo's Books to Cooks

Vickie Kerr just wanted to make a healthier snack for her four children. And she wanted to use potatoes grown by her husband, Bill, on their farm. The resulting potato chip recipe then became "Miss Vickie's", one of the most successful potato chip brands in North America. Vickie has always been a strong advocate for creating a family legacy through food and now she is sharing her family recipes with the world via her new cookbook, Miss Vickie's Kitchen: Family Recipes from Vickie Kerr, the Creator of Miss Vickie's Potato Chips.

This afternoon, Vickie will join us in our shop to sign copies of her new book and tell us her story.

Cost: FREE, Miss Vickie's Kitchen: Family Recipes from Vickie Kerr, the Creator of Miss Vickie's Potato Chips will be available for purchase.

The Great Lobster Cookbook - CBC Radio North by Northwest Cooking Club Taping

  • Barbara-Jo's Books to Cooks

Lobster is often thought of as a luxury dish, and something best left to the experts when it comes to cooking. But Matt Dean Pettit, chef and owner of Rock Lobster Food Co., says this doesn't have to be true. Cooking with lobster can be fun, easy and stress-free. Matt wants everyone to know that lobster doesn't have to be reserved for special occasions, and today he'll tell us more during a CBC Radio taping for North by Northwest's Cooking Club.

He will discuss his new book, The Great Lobster Cookbook, with host, Sheryl MacKay, and demonstrate a recipe from its pages. The book aims to demystify the lobster, with anatomy tips, easy to follow recipes and even recipes from chefs like Mark McEwan and Roger Mooking. Copies will be available for purchase during the event.

Cost: FREE, please RSVP by calling 604-688-6755.
