This year we are honouring a few of our favourite authors who are no longer with us or unable to visit the shop, but who have provided us with a rich legacy of knowledge and recipes.
Marcella Hazan was a talented home cook originally from the Italian province of Emilia-Romagna who taught cooking classes in her home, similar to Julia Child. Her first book came out in 1973, and introduced true Italian cookery and ingredients to North American cooks.
Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking is the best of her first two combined into one volume. Because it encompasses so many facets of Italian cookery, it has always been a joy to sell in the shop, and to cook from in our own home kitchens. Tonight Glenys will cook a delicious Italian supper from this book and teach us some of the essential recipes within.
