CHARLIE PALMER'S CASUAL COOKING
by Charlie Palmer with Judith Choate

Published by William Morrow
Hardcover $44.95

It does seem that every chef of note has a book espousing the virtues of their restaurants and their recipes and we like that. But when you get these people at home cooking for friends and family, which in this case includes four little boys (see Cheez Sammiches), then you know that this is home-cooking with elan. Let's start with Beet, Snow Pea and Jicama Salad. The secret ingredient here is yellow beets but red are good too, in a Lady Macbeth kind of way. Carrots in Guinness (note the secret ingredient) are a good accompaniment to Lamb Shanks with Tomato, Lentils, and Olives. Finish with Apple Pizzas with Cider Sorbet.

Charlie Palmer’s Casual Cooking will have you rethinking your own time-honoured recipes and enjoying his favourites.
