We're big fans of English cookery books and this one has attitude. In her irreverent and witty fashion, Ruth Watson guides us through winter and summer recipes spiced with cheeky advice. And it has been lauded by both Delia Smith and Nigel Slater......who could ask for more? The preambles to the recipes are good reads all on their own. Recipe—Chargrilled Squid, Potato, and Onion Salad with Lime dressing - "Brown Owl would like to remind you that squid is not the least bit rubbery when it's cooked properly. That means it must be cooked for no more than 2 minutes, or no less than 40 minutes - anything in between spells Dunlop." The recipes are not pretentious but deliciously practical and always REALLY HELPFUL.
